The Shared Earth opened one of the first Fair Trade shops in the UK, on a busy street in York, 1986. The concept proved successful from the start and branches opened up all over the UK, including shops in Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, and Liverpool.

This success allowed Shared Earth to increase its number of overseas suppliers, and its stock of unique products, from ten to thirty-five. Fair Trade ensures that the goods we buy have a positive effect on the world around us. Often, enough profit is made to pay for fresh water wells, schools or other community projects.

Sales of Fair Trade products are increasing substantially, because people like to feel they're making the world a better place! Shared Earth is not a charity. Making profit has always been as important as its ethical aims - after all, the higher the sales, the greater the benefits for people in developing countries.

Whilst some of our customers are avid Fair Trade supporters, the majority buy our products because they like them, they are different and the price is right.

Franchisees Role...

Franchisees are expected to promote the concept of Fair Trade and manage the store. This includes making creative shop displays, ensuring that the shop is never short of stock, attending business networking events within the territory, and participating in on-going training.

Above all, we will expect you to become part of the Shared Earth team that provides exemplary service to our customers, all in the name of Fair Trade.
