LDC has been granted master franchise rights to the Krispy Kreme brand in the UK. Krispy Kreme UK opened its first store at Harrods in 2003 and now has over 30 outlets, mainly in London. The Doughnut food franchise Krispy Kreme is to be taken over up by a Manchester-based private equity firm which plans a £5million UK expansion for the company. LDC has been granted master franchise rights to the Krispy Kreme brand in the UK. Krispy Kreme UK opened its first store at Harrods in 2003 and now has over 30 outlets, mainly in London. The group employs over 600 staff and sales have risen from over £5million in 2004 to almost £20million by the end of the year.

The company hopes to develop the brand in Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle in the coming years. Approximately 75% of Krispy Kreme's total stores are operated by franchisees, and half are located outside the US. Currently, the Krispy Kreme hot Original Glazed(R) doughnut can be found in 14 countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, the Philippines, the Republic of South Korea, Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
